Tech help at home, or over the phone
£50 an hour. No call-out fee. No fix, no fee.
- No call-out fee: I don’t charge for arriving
- No fix, no fee: if I can’t solve it, you pay nothing
- One hour minimum, then charged by the half hour
- Agreed before I start: no surprises on the doorstep
Travel. There’s no travel charge if I’m already visiting your village that day, or for local visits around Corsham and Burnham. For longer journeys of an hour or more, travel time and mileage are agreed with you in advance, and I’ll always tell you the number before I set off.
Home visit
- Phones, tablets, laptops and computers
- Smart TVs, sound bars and streaming
- Wi-fi, routers and printers
- Email, passwords and online banking safety
- Scam checks and fraud protection
- Setting up video calls with the family
“If it takes me five minutes, it’s on me.”
Quite often, I don’t need to come at all
Good candidates for remote help
- Email that has stopped sending or receiving
- A computer running slowly
- Checking whether a message is a scam
- Setting up or resetting a password
- Showing you how to do something step by step
- Printers and devices that have lost their settings
- Anything you can describe over the phone
A word of caution. I will never ring you out of the blue asking to connect to your computer. If somebody does that, it is a scam. Hang up. Remote sessions only ever happen because you rang me.

Letting a stranger into your home is a big thing
- You’re dealing with one person. My name is Oliver Porter. I’m the person on the phone and the person at the door, never a subcontractor you’ve never spoken to.
- Rangeford Villages trust me to work unsupervised with their residents at Wadswick Green, every single week, and have done for nine years.
- I never ask for your bank details, and I’ll never ring you out of the blue claiming there’s a problem with your computer. Anyone who does is trying to defraud you.
- You choose what I touch. Nothing is changed, installed or deleted without me explaining it first.
- Family are always welcome to sit in, or to ring me themselves if they’d rather arrange it for you.
Arranging this for a parent? Plenty of my visits are booked by sons and daughters who live too far away to help in person. Ring me and I’ll deal with you directly, then report back afterwards.
Two areas, both covered properly
Wiltshire & Bath
Berkshire & South Bucks
Somewhere else? Ring me anyway. I travel a good deal further than this for the right job.
Before you ring
Then you don’t pay. That’s what “no fix, no fee” means. If the device is genuinely beyond help I’ll tell you so honestly, and I’ll advise you on what to replace it with, without trying to sell you anything.
Bank transfer, cash or card, whichever is easiest for you. I’ll always tell you the amount before I start, and it won’t change afterwards.
Not for local visits around Corsham or Burnham, and not at all if I’m already at your village that day. For longer journeys of an hour or more, we agree travel time and mileage before I set off, so you’ll know the number in advance.
Usually. Most electronic things work on the same handful of principles, and I’ve been doing this a long time. If it’s genuinely outside what I know, I’ll say so rather than charge you to guess.
Yes, and please ring straight away rather than waiting. First, contact your bank. You can dial 159 from most UK banks to reach them safely. Then ring me and I’ll check the device over, change what needs changing and make sure nobody still has access.
Yes. I work seven days a week and keep long hours. On clinic days I’m frequently still visiting residents well into the evening. If a weekend or an evening suits you better, just say so when you ring.
Shall I come and take a look?
