Tech help at home, or over the phone

Patient, one-to-one help with anything electronic, at your kitchen table across Wiltshire and Berkshire, or remotely wherever you are in the country.
What it costs

£50 an hour. No call-out fee. No fix, no fee.

Most companies charge you just for turning up. I don’t. You pay for the time I spend actually helping you, and nothing else.

Travel. There’s no travel charge if I’m already visiting your village that day, or for local visits around Corsham and Burnham. For longer journeys of an hour or more, travel time and mileage are agreed with you in advance, and I’ll always tell you the number before I set off.

“If it takes me five minutes, it’s on me.”

Plenty of jobs turn out to be a setting in the wrong place, and it would be daft to charge an hour for that. If it’s quick, I won’t take your money. I’d far rather you rang me the next time something goes wrong than sat worrying about the cost.
Remote help

Quite often, I don’t need to come at all

A surprising number of problems are solved over the phone in a few minutes, or by me connecting to your computer while you watch and talk me through what happened.
These days I help more people remotely than I do in person. It costs less, there’s nothing to wait in for, and it works anywhere in the country, so if a relative lives miles from either of my areas, I can still help them.
You stay in control the whole time. You can see everything I do, and you can disconnect me with one click whenever you want.

Good candidates for remote help

A word of caution. I will never ring you out of the blue asking to connect to your computer. If somebody does that, it is a scam. Hang up. Remote sessions only ever happen because you rang me.

What happens

From phone call to fixed

1

You ring me

Tell me roughly what’s wrong, in whatever words you like. I’ll tell you honestly whether I can help.
2

We pick a time

A morning or afternoon that suits you. I’ll confirm the cost before I put the phone down.
3

I come to you

I’ll show you who I am at the door, take my shoes off, and get on with it without any fuss.
4

I show you how

Fixing it is half the job. The other half is making sure you could do it yourself next time.
Peace of mind

Letting a stranger into your home is a big thing

I know that, and I don’t take it lightly. So here’s exactly who you’re dealing with.
No call-out fee
No fix, no fee
One named person
Trusted by Rangeford Villages
Price agreed up front

Arranging this for a parent? Plenty of my visits are booked by sons and daughters who live too far away to help in person. Ring me and I’ll deal with you directly, then report back afterwards.

Where I visit

Two areas, both covered properly

I split my week between Wiltshire and Berkshire, so both get regular visits rather than the occasional trip.

Wiltshire & Bath

Corsham, Chippenham, Bath, Melksham, Devizes, Trowbridge, Box, Colerne, Lacock and the villages between.

Berkshire & South Bucks

Burnham, Slough, Maidenhead, Windsor, Beaconsfield, Taplow, Farnham Common, Gerrards Cross and nearby.

Somewhere else? Ring me anyway. I travel a good deal further than this for the right job.

Questions

Before you ring

Then you don’t pay. That’s what “no fix, no fee” means. If the device is genuinely beyond help I’ll tell you so honestly, and I’ll advise you on what to replace it with, without trying to sell you anything.

Bank transfer, cash or card, whichever is easiest for you. I’ll always tell you the amount before I start, and it won’t change afterwards.

Not for local visits around Corsham or Burnham, and not at all if I’m already at your village that day. For longer journeys of an hour or more, we agree travel time and mileage before I set off, so you’ll know the number in advance.

Usually. Most electronic things work on the same handful of principles, and I’ve been doing this a long time. If it’s genuinely outside what I know, I’ll say so rather than charge you to guess.

Yes, and please ring straight away rather than waiting. First, contact your bank. You can dial 159 from most UK banks to reach them safely. Then ring me and I’ll check the device over, change what needs changing and make sure nobody still has access.

Yes. I work seven days a week and keep long hours. On clinic days I’m frequently still visiting residents well into the evening. If a weekend or an evening suits you better, just say so when you ring.

Shall I come and take a look?

One phone call, an honest answer, and a price before I set off.
